This Week's Tip: Protect Your Memories

When it comes to copies of your digital files, rarely is too much enough. If you have just one copy of your digital photos, music file
and documents, you’re putting all of your most important eggs
in one very delicate basket.

Hard drives are anything but hearty. These memory platters are very fragile devices, and it doesn’t take much to damage or corrupt one so that the entire device is unreadable. If you’ve got all of your important files on one drive, take measures today to protect yourself.

First, pick up an external hard drive, and use the included software
to completely backup your computer. This will protect you in case it crashes and you need to reinstall your applications and data. Next,
make a copy of your photos, documents, and any music files you want
to save onto CDs or DVDs. Store these somewhere OTHER than your home, preferably a safe deposit box. That way, you’ll have a backup
even if you lose the original AND your primary backup.
